Week 7, 2023

Week 7

Week seven has arrived. Showing up like a lucky roll of the dice across a soft felt table...  You're alive! LUCKY SEVENS!

Time to stand up, walk over to your 4K Weeks poster, and fill in the next square.

Done?

The subject line this week is from one of my favorite vintage meme videos of all time... It almost feels like it is from an alternate universe, and I suppose it kind of does... the early 80's.

Enjoy: Hello, my name is Spenc-ahhh!  at 15 seconds in, when they come at you like a 5-headed spider... vintage gold!

Ok... enough with the distractions... on to the serious business...

Remarkable Weeks

Week #07 in the year 1976, Glenn Miller was awarded the first ever gold record for selling 1 million copies of "Chatanooga Choo Choo". The original Bieber! He was 1980.00 weeks old. (37.97 yrs)

Week #07 in the year 2021, Sarah Thomas became the first woman to officiate in a Super Bowl. She was 2472.29 weeks old. (47.41)

Week #07 in the year 1944, Harry S. McAlpin became the first African-American reporter to attend a U.S. Presidential new conference.  He was 1959.43 weeks old. (37.57 yrs)

Week #07 in the year 2020,  Maya Reis Gabeira was towed into, and surfed a 75.5 foot (22.4m) wave. Breaking the female record, and also the largest wave surfed by any human in 2020. (that's like surfing off the top of a 7 story building!)  She was 1713.57 weeks old. (32.86 yrs)

This Week's Quote

"I'm not afraid of storms, for I'm learning how to sail my ship." -Louisa May Alcott

The difference between terror and exhilaration is often just whether you are standing on your heels or your toes. The same experience can be vastly different just based on your attitude.

The perspective shift that this quote asks you to make is huge.  Am I miserably cold and wet, or am I out here learning how to sail my ship?  Same situation, same conditions, same person, different mindset.

Smooth seas don't make skilled sailors.

So... if you are struggling right now, grab the struggle with both arms in a giant bear hug, and kiss it on the mouth. Today's struggle is tomorrow's skilled YOU.

Now...do today's YOU a favor. Step out onto the deck, in the dangerously cold rain, with sea spray splashing you in the face, and with a smile say:

"What a beautiful day to learn to sail!"

What I am Thinking About This Week

45 and 14.

That's how many weeks are left in this year, and that's how many weeks in a row I have been sending this weekly email. It is one of my favorite tasks that I have to do each week.

Thanks for reading.

I'm committed to doing this for the rest of 2023.  After that, we will see!

Oh, and another "14"  Happy Valentine's Day.  Find someone to show some love to today.  Words are wind... show them.

Thanks for being a part of the journey with us! Please let me know if you liked/disliked the content this week.
