What I'm about to tell you now is going to be a hard pill to swallow, but I believe it's the number one factor that will make you progress the most in life.
Your current situation is the result of your past decisions (plus a luck factor which you don't have control over)
(Let's ignore the luck factor because there is nothing we can do about it. It's just luck and it's equally random for everybody.)
To rephrase this:
You are responsible for everything that happens in your life.
And by everything, I mean everything. Sure, things could happen to you due to luck but you and you alone are responsible for how you handle these situations.
This is what we call "taking responsibility" and the more responsibility you take, the more control you will have over your life.
When something bad happens in our lives, our first instinct is to blame external factors; bad luck, the government, the weather etc.
"I will go to the gym tomorrow; it's not my fault that it’s raining today."
"I can't work on my project because when I get back from my 9-to-5, I'm exhausted."
"I wish I had a better-looking body, but my genetics are bad."
We agree that these are all obstacles to your goals, but you know what?
The ultimate responsibility is yours.
I know it's hard. Blaming is easier and feels much better.
But we must assume responsibility for everything that happens in our lives. Both the bad things and the good things. If you externalize your responsibility, you are essentially giving away your power to change things, your power to build the life you deserve.
